How to find motivation to spend more time outside
Find a partner
Find a club — create accountability
Good gear
Write down your goals or trip wish list
Keep your stuff ready to go
Keep a log of your adventures
-include distance, elevation gain, weather and other things … good things to keep you motivated and to reference your adventure in case you want to go back and repeat it one day. if you had a great time, there is a very good chance you will go back
Don’t stop moving: keep fit
- it’s important to keep fit in other ways when you can’t do it outside. is it -30 outside? you’re probably not going to head out for that run (and we don’t recommmend that you do) but you should definitely
Eat well, eat often
Don’t let weather get you down
Positive thinking
Use the power of positive visualization to get yourself excited and motivated for your next trip. Often, the closer we get to a big trip the more anxious we can feel, and it’s easy to start getting overwhelmed by packing or preparation, and loose sight of the trip itself. If you get yourself to that point make sure to take a few minutes of time out and think about your adventure, and what you will enjoy when you’re there. For example, are you going on a long distance backpacking trip? Take some time to think about something other than the lightweight gear you’ll need to bring and how sore your feet will get, instead, think about drinking hot chocolate while watching the sun set in the mountains, or the joy you will feel after stepping into camp after a long day on the trail.
