Sherpa Movie – Trouble on Everest
Having seen the highly anticipated Everest movie few weeks ago got me thinking about all of the climbing sherpas that work extremely hard in supporting all of the mountain climbers on Mount Everest.
For some reason the movie did not include much footage of the local sherpas who risk their lives on daily basis when climbing the world’s highest mountain and, other high altitude peaks in the Himalayas.
Many of the people who liked our Everest movie review post on facebook are sherpas living in Nepal.
One of them, Devid Sherpa – owner of Everest Treks and Expeditions, posted this movie trailer for a new documentary Sherpa – Trouble on Everest coming out in February 2016.
On the heels of 2014 clashes between sherpas and climbers the movie explores everest climbing from their perspective. To date over 120 sherpas died on Everest. On April 18, 2014 16 sherpas perished in an avalanche.
To the local sherpas, Everest is the “mother goddess” and many climb it as means of supporting their family, not necessarily agreeing with the motifs of many visiting climbers who treat mount everest as a “physical challenge” or to “see how close you can get to death”
“we sherpa people have a great respect for that mountain, she’s the mother god of the earth”
“every time I send sherpas up the mountain is like sending them off to war. I don’t know who’s going to come home”
