Spray Range Ski Traverse
Spray Range Traverse – combining many of the classic tours in Kananaskis Country
Located in Kananaskis Country, AB, Canada, Spray Range Traverse is a demanding but super rewarding backcountry ski trip. I skied the Spray Range Traverse on April 19th, 2103 with Alicja and Ian. Over the course of 11 kilometres (7 miles) we gained a total of 1400 m (4600 feet) of elevation with equal amount of ski descents mostly down north facing slopes filled with winter like powder, despite the fact that we were skiing on April 19th in above zero temperatures. Starting at Burstall Pass Parking lot located on Spray Lakes road, we ascended 600 m (2000 ft.) to Commonwealth / Pig’s Tail Coll.
Skied down the north side to Commonwealth creek.
Skinned up the “Super Slope” to Tryst Lake Chutes.
Skied down Tryst lake chute #5.
Went up the other side to Tent Ridge coll
and from there skied down the north side to Mt. Shark road (near Engadine Lodge) via the well filled creek drainage.
It took us seven and a half hours to ski this awesome ski traverse which I highly recommend to any strong backcountry skier with a sense of adventure who doesn’t mind a longer day.
