Whistler Implements Resort Wide Smoking Ban
No smoking: this is the new policy is at Whistler Resort. The smoking ban becomes valid on May 31 and includes all property owned by Whistler Blackcomb. The policy was implemented by Whistler CEO Dave Brownlie, and sets a precedent among all Canadian ski resorts especially those who are looking to provide smoke free environments, especially restaurants, pubs and bars.
Employees in restaurants in Whistler will be given one year to smoke in designated areas, then even these designated areas will be shut down and smoking will have no place at the resorts.
This policy, though mainly to promote health and a pristine alpine environment users come for, will also decrease risk of forest fires.
This policy doesn’t discriminate against the type of smoking either. Tobacco smokers are not the only ones affected: vaporizers, e-cigarettes, marijuana smokers will be held to this policy as well.
The CEO hopes this policy will encourage the downward trend of smoking in youth, and decrease forest fires. Whistler Blackcomb is set in an area of 8000 acres of densely wooded terrain.
Now that’s a breath of fresh air!
What do you think of this policy? Is it good for the resort and the ski industry?
